A worker at a Mowi Scotland sea site in Skye has died following a "workplace incident," according to Mowi Communications Director Ian Roberts.

The accident, which occurred Feb. 18, happened while the employee was disembarking the work boat Beinn Na Caillich, according to the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch.

Authorities are now conducting an investigation at the site, which is situated on the waters of Loch Alsh.

"We are all devastated with this news, and our deepest thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues at this time," Mowi Scotland spokesman Ian Roberts said.

"Relevant authorities have been notified are now investigating, including police, Health & Safety Executive and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Respecting that an investigation into this incident is ongoing, no further information can be provided at this time."

Mowi operates 49 sea farm sites in the Western Highlands and Scottish Isles. The company produces around 40,000 metric tons of salmon from the farms.
