Despite a turbulent year in the salmon farming industry, Mowi's senior executives walked away with salaries in line with the year prior, and in some cases even higher.

CEO Ivan Vindheim pocketed nearly €1.5 million ($1.8 million), inclusive of his salary, share-based incentives and other bonuses, up 8 percent on the year prior.

Meanwhile, Mowi plans to lay off 10 percent of its staff as part of its cost-reduction strategy first announced in August.

Jorgen Wengaard, an employee representative at Mowi, said while he does not want to see job losses, he has an "understanding that they want efficiency."
