The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) on Tuesday announced it appointed former Mondelez executive, Willem de Bruijn, as its new senior director of markets and communications.

De Bruijn will head up the ASC’s newly restructured Marketing and Communications, Market Development and Market Research and Insight departments.

De Bruijn's international marketing career spans 23 years, including 12 at American confectionery, food, beverage and snack multinational, Mondelez International.

He has also worked in product development, innovation and roll out at several international brands including Milka, Oreos, Bahlsen and Toblerone.

De Bruijn also has previously worked with UTZ and Rainforest Alliance and the Mondelez self-certification programs, and played a key role in the sustainability strategy at Bahlsen.

The appointment of De Bruijn follows a strategy review in 2020 that saw the ASC Board sign off its primary recommendation "to strengthen the ASC as a marketing organization."

"Willem brings with him an impressive history of international market, product, and consumer success," said ASC CEO Chris Ninnes.

"His appointment is a clear signal of ASC ‘s strategic focus to innovate in -- and invest in -- the delivery of more value to all our partners."
