Alicia Gallardo, the national director of Chile's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca), was named the country's undersecretary of fisheries and aquaculture on Wednesday following a recent government reshuffling.

Gallardo replaces Roman Zelaya Rios, who held the position since July 2019.

Gallardo first took on the role as Sernapesca's head in 2018 after Jose Miguel Burgos was asked to step down from his position.
