Feed giant Cargill has appointed Kjartan Maestad as its new head of communications for Norway and Scotland.

Maestad comes most recently from the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, where he worked for 14 years, most recently as a senior communications consultant.

Prior to that, he worked as a journalist in local, regional and national newspapers, including at the predecessor of Fiskeribladet, which is a sister publication to IntraFish.

Maestad started the new position on March 14, and he is based at the company's head office in Bergen.

Last week, Cargill Chile Holdings, a subsidiary of Cargill, acquired a 24.5 percent stake in Chilean salmon farmer Multi X.

As part of the deal, Mit-Salmon Chile, a subsidiary of Japan's Mitsui, will also increase its current holding in Multi X by just over 1 percent to also reach a 24.5 percent stake in the salmon farmer.
