US canned tuna giant Bumble Bee hired Leslie Hushka as its senior vice president of global corporate responsibility.

Hushka is a seasoned sustainability professional, having spent 23 years in research, government affairs and sustainability positions at ExxonMobil, where she worked on advancing priorities that included the company’s plastic waste solutions programs and external sustainability collaborations.

Hushka will oversee initiatives such as Bumble Bee’s $40 million (€35.4 million) accelerator fund "focused on further closing the gap on some of the biggest industry challenges in the sustainability space."

Announced in 2020, the fund is being used to ensure the health and abundance of tuna stocks, to reduce the impact of fishing on other species, and to remove plastics and other waste from the ocean, according to the company.
