US-based alternative feed ingredients firm Calysta has hired Lori Giver as its new chief science and sustainability officer.

Giver joined Calysta in 2013 as vice president of biological engineering, before being appointed vice president of research and development in 2019.

The executive came to Calysta from California-based biotech company Codexis, where she held a number of positions, including vice president of systems biology, senior director of technology and innovation, and manager of market development.

Calysta’s 50/50 joint venture with Adisseo, Calysseo is in the process of building the world’s first FeedKind commercial production facility in Chongqing, China, with 20,000 tons to come onto the market this year, increasing to 80,000 tons shortly thereafter, according to the company.

Last year Calysta announced completion of a $39 million (€33 million) equity financing round led by bp ventures to support commercial production of Calysta’s FeedKind protein.

Joining bp ventures in the round were Adisseo and Aqua-Spark, as well as other existing Calysta investors.
