This year has been a time of expansion for genetically modified (GM) salmon producer AquaBounty. The company is currently in the process of building its first full-scale, land-based operation in Pioneer, Ohio.

The land-based salmon farmer has been working hard to get up and running in the United States, following harvesting initial volumes of its genetically modified salmon last year. But it has felt some of the effects of rising interest rates, with rising construction costs for its Ohio farm now requiring more than $320 million (€317 million) to complete, a price tag significantly higher than initial estimates.
