The 2023 sockeye salmon season in Bristol Bay, home to the world's largest sockeye run, will be remembered for years to come --mostly for all the wrong reasons.

It also has the potential to be a watershed moment -- a game changer -- in how fishermen and the processing companies to which they sell their fish set and reveal the base price, or "going home price," that governs what fishermen get paid each season.

In this day and age of overwhelming flows of information, the disclosure of salmon prices by Alaska's largest processors -- Trident Seafoods, Peter Pan Seafood, Silver Bay Seafoods, OBI, Canfisco, North Pacific Seafoods, and others -- remains in the dark ages.
