Young's Seafood Limited confirmed Wednesday it will keep its Fraserburgh Watermill Road and Grantown-on-Spey processing facilities open.

After losing its smoked and fresh salmon contract with UK retailer Sainsbury's to Norwegian giant Marine Harvest, the company initially proposed closing its Fraserburgh and Spey Valley sites.

This would have resulted in the loss of more than 900 jobs.

However, "after extensive review, consultation with employee representatives and engagement with all interested stakeholders," as well as the transfer of the £100 million ($153 million/€137.1 million) fish processing contract with Sainsbury’s to a Rosyth-based supplier earlier this year, it decided to keep the plants open.
