Until now, no company had published details of antibiotics use in Chile, but Norway's largest aquaculture firm publicly declared its figures, not just for Chile but all countries where it operates.
The data was contained in the "Sustainability Report 2008" the company issued released last week.
In the foreword, Marine Harvest CEO Aase Aulie Michelet said the report is a contribution toward creating greater transparency in the industry.
Transparency is essential for achieving the development everyone says they wish for, shesaid, and the facts have to be laid on the table so the industry can carry on a constructive debate within itself and with its critics, the company said.
