Castlerock Fisheries, India’s third largest seafood exporter, is set to expand upstream into shrimp farming.
The company plans to start production from its own farms next year and the volume will be “no less” than 3,000 metric tons, said Devan Shah, its export manager.
Its own farmed shrimp should be available for export in June, 2012, he said.
“It is a trend to see processors in India looking to buy up farms,” he told IntraFish. “We need to secure raw material supply and also it makes it easier to meet the traceability and health standards of the European market.
