Similar to its 2007 farmed salmon standards, Whole Foods new farmed fish standards for Arctic char, barramundi, catfish, trout, tilapia and shrimp restrict feed, antibiotic usage and other rearing practices that will severely limit who can supply the company, the world's largest natural foods retailer with 270 locations worldwide.

It’s unclear how dramatically Whole Foods’ new standards have shifted or will shift its supply base. It certainly limits who can get their food in the door.

For the most part, most suppliers we contacted have been in with the company for long periods of time – sometimes decades -- and have worked on the new standards for years.
