Mostly, though, it is about how the decisions he or she makes affect the future of the seafood world both in the present, and the future.
We've honored two of those leaders in aquaculture and fisheries in over the past two months, but in the Seafood Power 100, we have gone a lot further.
The Seafood Power 100 is the world's only ranking of the 100 most influential and important executives in the international seafood business.
Our team of editors scoured the globe and went through our archives to determine just who belongs on our list, and how actions and events have changed where they sit on the food chain since our first ranking in 2012, or in some cases, why they have fallen off.
We've changed our criteria since we first put out the Seafood Power 100. We decided to narrow our focus and step away from researchers, environmental campaigners and politicians. Our aim is to bring you the executives operating in the sector day to day, every day.
Did the list change? Absolutely. In fact, more than 30 executives are no longer on the list. The staggering number of fallouts came for a lot of reasons. Some were fired, some walked away willingly, and some just lost a little of their former glory. Others we've listed in our "Hall of Fame" section: their influence is still felt, but operationally they've passed on the torch.
This year also saw a tremendous number of newcomers. We saw some big shifts at the top, but we also saw new entrants that have already made a big mark in a short period of time.
Did we make the right decisions? Unlike the past, you don't have to write an angry letter in. Our innovative Industry Choice feature puts the power in your hands. All you have to do is click a button below each Power 100 executive: higher or lower. If you think we put an exec below where he or she belongs, boost them up in the Industry Choice ranking. Likewise, you can give your thumbs down to anybody you think doesn't deserve the credit we have given them. Voting is anonymous, so don't be afraid to give your real opinion. We'll be keeping you updated on the results, because they will certainly change week to week, and even day to day depending on how that executive is performing in the eyes of Power 100 members.
We have also tied in LinkedIn with the Power 100 ranking. If you are signed in to your LinkedIn account, you can see which Power 100 executives are within reach of your network, and find out how you can make your way into an introduction.
We have put a lot of work into compiling what we think will be one of the most informative, useful and powerful tools industry members can have. We hope you agree -- visit www.seafoodpower100.com today to get your copy or email: info@intrafish.com to learn more.
As a bonus, our commercial team is throwing in a free annual subscription to our seafood marketers' website Seafood International Digital as well!
