IntraFish was privy to an animated discussion among UK industry members at a recent promotional event held to boost hake consumption.

Everything from the impact of the discards ban to the importance of cutting out the middlemen in the supply chain was brought up at the table, between mouthfuls of hake and oysters.

The informal chat between old friends and industry associates raised several interesting points -- the most pertinent being why UK fishermen need to understand market needs, and adapt suitably.

"We have suffered from bad communication in this country," seafood chef Mitch Tonks said.
