The seafood canning industry is one of the most fragmented sectors in Spain and it likely is doomed to remain that way, say experts.
There are many factors contributing to the industry’s ongoing fragmentation, but the sector’s business structure is the single-largest factor impeding companies’ national and international expansion.
Of course, there are a few cases of well-established companies with significant income from foreign markets, but they are not representative of the broader Spanish canning industry, which includes more than 500 companies.
