The story by The Sunday Times, headlined “Cod will vanish in 10 years,” could not have come at a more ludicrous time.

Just as Bojan Pancevski and Charles Clover were putting together articles of an almost staggering stupidity, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) and Iceland’s Marine Research Institute (MRI) also announced that stocks of cod are so strong that large increases are likely.

The Barents Sea cod stock could go to 940,000 metric tons and Iceland’s cod recovery is so robust that its quota could hit 250,000 metric tons by 2020, said the MRI.
