An independent report by the US Workers Rights Consortium (WRC) reveals forced labor at Walmart's supplier, C.J.’S’s Seafood, a Louisiana-based crawfish packer.
Walmart has ceased sourcing seafood from C.J.'s for now until it obtains information on the allegations, Walmart spokesperson Lorenzo Lopez told IntraFish on Thursday. Testimony obtained by the WRC indicates C.J.'s, which supplies 85 percent of its seafood to Walmart, was out of compliance with Walmart's Standards for Suppliers. C.J.'s did not turn calls from IntraFish for comment.
In a video by the National Guestworkers Alliance (NGS), which received a call for help from one of its members in mid-May, a worker states, “The supervisor told us that we don’t understand, that we are ignorant people, and he’s going to make us understand with a shovel.
