Reputation is still the greatest challenge for the pangasius industry, Ngo Vi Tam Nguyen, sales and marketing director at Vietnamese producer Vinh Hoan, told IntraFish.
The company is therefore urging the country’s producers to join Vinh Hoan to actively build up marketing efforts and to make investments in “telling our good story.
“We hope in the future there will be a shared marketing fund,” she said, adding such an effort could happen under the umbrella of the Vietnamese Association of Seafood Exporters and Producer (VASEP).
Exports to the European Union have been declining for three years, she said. This is not down to the quality of the fish but to its reputation.
Vinh Hoan itself is pushing its untreated pangasius fillets at this year’s Brussels show, which are already selling well in countries such as Germany, Nguyen said.
