With people across the globe “kidnapping” and “misappropriating” the Scottish tag for smoked salmon, Associated Seafoods is on a mission to take it back, Neil Greig, commercial director told IntraFish.
Associated Seafoods is fed up with the "Scottish" element being “misappropriated” by other countries, such as France and the United States, where products are sold which have nothing to do with Scotland.
For example in the US some products claim to be “Scottish-style” said Greig. “It is being kidnapped by other people and we are passionate to bring it back. To be Scottish it should be smoked in Scotland and of premium quality.”
According to Greig there has been a corruption of what’s premium smoked salmon – “we are the genuine article.”
“We are trying to push the tide back on misleading claims of Scottish smoked salmon, it is about being true to what we say we’re doing and doing it consistently.”
The company is re-launching its "Pride of Scotland" brand at the show, with a new look and new range and promising this “premium end, consistent quality.”
