Smoked salmon prices are only slightly affected by global drop in farmed salmon prices, smoked salmon sellers say.
Cristian Swett, general manager of Alimentos Multiexport, told IntraFish the average price for two to three pound deboned farmed salmon, FOB Miami, was $3.49 (€2.83) per pound this year, down 40 percent from last year’s price of $5.72 (€4.64) per pound.
But these lower commodity prices are having little to no effect on the prices Multiexport fetches for its smoked salmon products. Prices are “slightly” down, Swett said.
