Overall US shrimp imports jumped more than 2 percent in volume, but saw a significant drop in value in the first nine months of the year, according to the most recent statistics released by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).
Imports hit 416,059 metric tons through September, up from 407,330 metric tons in the same period of last year. They were valued at $3.8 billion (€3.6 billion), a nearly 19 percent drop from the $4.8 billion (€4.5 billion) spent last year.
