Low global supply for scallops pushed up prices, but some in the industry hope forecasts for high upcoming scallop landings in the coming years will balance out the marketplace.
Last year's shortage of wild scallops on the global market pushed up prices, said seasoned seafood executive Jeff Davis, who heads up scallop firm Blue Harvest Fisheries.
A warm winter meant many Maine fishermen were still hauling up lobster traps, pushing scallop harvesting to the back burner. This pushed up scallop prices and led to low supply in the marketplace.
