The Alaskan crab industry is hoping to see some relief with the recently inked landmark bilateral agreement between the United States and Russia to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Signed Friday in Portland, Oregon, "this agreement has been many years in the making," said Mark Gleason, executive director of the Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers (ABSC), which represents more than 70 percent of the Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands (BSAI) crab harvesters.
