With the holiday season approaching and strong harvests, the lobster industry anxiously watches Europe.
Lobster is a holiday tradition in European countries and accounts for a good portion of American lobster sales. However, certain factors, and more recently, terrorist-related incidents are complicating Atlantic lobster businesses.
“Europe is a major market, particularly for Christmas, and I think it will be down this year because of the terrorist situation,” said Bob Bayer, executive director of the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine. “I think there will be a drop in demand.
