The UK seafood sector is being warned to prepare for a "no deal" Brexit following comments by the United Kingdom's new Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Johnson, a divisive figure who is often compared with US President Donald Trump, took power last week after the ousting of Theresa May after she failed three times to get a deal on the terms of the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union approved by lawmakers.

Against this background the UK Seafood Industry Alliance trade group said there is a need to make urgent progress to find a constructive way out of the current Brexit impasse now that the UK leadership issue is resolved -- not least because the continuing uncertainty is already costing money, jobs and opportunities for the future.
