Both wild coldwater and farmed vannamei shrimp prices have risen higher during the past few years, adding yet another nuance to an already complex market.

The average price of all U.S. shrimp imports has climbed dramatically since October 2009, from $6.84 (€5.24) per kilo to $7.40 (€5.67) per kilo in 2010. In 2011, the average price climbed even higher to $8.92 (€6.84) per kilo, as of October, driven by production problems in Thailand, China and Vietnam over 2011.

While prices depend upon the size and the source, they are generally up from where they were a year ago for the major U.S.
