Several supermarket giants joined the fight against the biggest US tuna producers for allegedly fixing tuna prices, giving the case far more likelihood of moving forward.

The Kroger Co., Hy-Vee, Inc., and H.E. Butt (HEB) Grocery Company and Albertsons Companies, LLC, which includes Safeway, filed a lawsuit on Friday against Bumble Bee Foods LLC, StarKist Company, South Korea-based StarKist owner Dongwon, Tri-Union Foods LLC, Tri-Union Foods LLC and Chicken of the Sea International, Inc.

Similar to dozens of lawsuits before it, the antitrust lawsuit seeks compensatory damages, a permanent injunction, court fees and alleges the defendants conspired "not to compete on the sale of canned tuna sold to plaintiffs and others in the United States," according to court documents.
