The Icicle facility, based out of Bellingham, Wash., produces surimi seafood products under both private and own-label brands. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition is part of Trident’s strategy to expand its retail presence and production capacity, the company said. Trident Executive Vice President Joe Bundrant said surimi seafood is a “natural extension” of the company’s ‘Source to the Plate’ philosophy, which focuses the company’s business on value-added production.
Icicle Seafoods President and CEO Dennis Guhlke said the sale was a fair-value disposal of a non-core part of the business and will allow Icicle to invest the proceeds into growing its core business.
