Trade body sucked into Norway industry funding debate

The Norwegian government appointed a cabinet secretary committee to consider whether a new area duty should be imposed on the aquaculture industry.

The Norwegian Seafood Federation (FHL) warned against a creating duty spiral.

“If a new area duty is imposed on the aquaculture industry, this must be compensated for elsewhere by cuts in other taxes and duties. If necessary, the authorities must consider a reduction of the export duty and research duty,” FHL said.

“I’m surprised there should be a discussion about funds for market investment in connection with a production-oriented area duty,” Martinussen told IntraFish.
