Thai shrimp farmers push government to take action on falling prices

Thai shrimp farmers are urging the government to take immediate action against the falling prices. 

The government is under pressure from shrimp farmers to either offer a guaranteed minimum price scheme for head-on shrimp or initiate a shrimp mortgage program, said a source with a Thai supplier.  

“The government called up some major shrimp processors for a meeting and is trying to encourage those processors to help raise their purchasing price from shrimp farmers by at least 15 percent,” the source told IntraFish.
