Tesco -- which reported revenue of £60.93 billion (€69.5 billion/$98 billion) and net income of £2.67 billion (€3 billion/$4.3 billion) in its 2010/2011 financial year – established the procurement division Group Food Sourcing (GFS) in the spring of 2010.

 
The idea is to deliver a more “streamlined, efficient system of food sourcing for all 14 of the group's country operations that is more than simply a direct sourcing initiative,” some executives involved in the program told Eurofruit, a business Website and magazine.

In an interview with Eurofruit, published in the magazine's September 2011 issue, Darren Clough and Matt Simister of retail giant Tesco said GFS was determined to help suppliers sell more and insisted it was wrong to suggest the group wanted to source direct.
