Adolfo Alvial, whose background includes positions as head of the technical wing of Sernepesca and director for fish health at Marine Harvest Chile, predicts Chile will produce close to 200,000 metric tons of salmon this year.

Alvial calculated his predictions according to estimated exported volume: “130,000 metric tons in 2011, 388,000 in 2012 and 500,000 metric tons in 2013. If you base this on an average yield of 66 percent to 67 percent and assume that everything is fillets, this is equal to 197,000 metric tons, 587,000 metric tons and 757,000 metric tons.
