With German consumers increasingly concerned about sustainability, retail and seafood producers were forced to respond.

“Social responsibility must pervade the structure of the entire production process. It’s a demanding challenge, but we are taking it on,” Uwe Trocha, area manager of the retail chain Edeka, said at last weekend's conference.

Around 300 exhibitors from 27 nations presented their latest products in seafood and technology at the 12th annual Fish International show. Organizer Messe Bremen said some 12,000 visitors attended.

Messe Bremen's Managing Director Hans Peter Schneider said the conference was themed around sustainability, and most companies expressed interest in discussing the topic at the show.
