With US consumers more interested in healthy grab-and-go options than ever, surimi seafood products may just have a window of opportunity to raise their profile on the American supermarket scene, and surimi marketing executives across the globe are responding with efforts to introduce surimi to first-time customers.
“It's certainly a trendy product," Steve Lutz, executive vice president of Perishables Group, a retail market research firm, told IntraFish.
"There's been a lot of talk about surimi. It catches a lot of attention in food press, and I think there are more and more restaurants where consumers are experiencing these products, and that encourages consumers to buy it in the grocery store," Lutz said on Wednesday.
As
