The super frozen tuna market is growing rapidly at the expense of the fresh tuna market because not only is it more available, it is “surprisingly” cheaper, according to suppliers.
As the technology develops, and more retailers are capable of storing the product, more and more people will turn to super frozen over fresh, they believe.
“To a certain extent super frozen tuna is growing at the expense of fresh tuna,” Martin Brugman, managing director of Culimer told IntraFish.
According to Brugman, the trend has a lot to do with availability and pricing.
