The super frozen tuna market is slowly but surely growing ground in the European market, as importers gradually move away from fresh in the wake of volatile prices, and a desire for higher quality.
“In general terms the super-frozen market is doing well, there is steady progress, and we are happy with what we are seeing,” Martin Brugman, managing director of Culimer, told IntraFish.
According to Brugman, whose company is heavily invested in the super-frozen sector, volume-wise the demand is still largely with regular wholesalers, but super-frozen now “cannibalizes fresh imports.”
