The Southern Shrimp Alliance (SSA) is backing recent calls for the White House to crackdown on what it says are contaminated Indian shrimp imports.

The body representing a coalition of US shrimp fishermen said authorities need to introduce similar strict levels of testing to those in place in the EU on Indian shrimp.

SSA calculates that less than 1 percent of all shrimp imports into the United States are tested compared with 50 percent of Indian imports into the EU.
