Vigo, Spain-based Pescapuerta is set to close the Congelados Y Derivados (Condesa) plant in Leon and outsource production to other suppliers to pack its products, a source in the Spanish seafood sector told IntraFish.

There is over 300 staff in the Leon facility, but some are likely to be retained. Pescapuerta plans to continue to use the site as a distribution and storage hub, the source said.

Around 200 jobs are likely to go, he said.

The plant, which is used by Pescapuerta to process frozen value-added products for sale under the Elmar brand, has been hit by the consumer crisis since 2009, said a statement from the company.
