Plans to open an office started about a year ago, Rafael Puga, president of SOTA, told IntraFish.
Geographically, Miami is a central location for the organization of salmon-producing companies in Canada, Chile and the United States.
“Miami is in the middle of the Canadian and Chile producers,” said Puga (pictured). “We have a lot of salmon companies there.”
Laura McNaughton, administrative coordinator for SOTA, will be the only employee working in the office. The space will be used for executive committee meetings and as a resource for salmon farmers, Puga said.
