A new report by market analyst McDowell Group shows lower prices resulting from the monster sockeye salmon run in Bristol Bay might be spurring demand both at home and abroad, but returns to fishermen are likely to be lower than in years past.

The report, prepared for the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association (BBRSDA), found wholesale prices for all sockeye salmon products are down over last year, but sales volumes appear to be increasing, particularly on the domestic market.

The volume of sockeye fillets sold at US retail is up 25 percent in 2015, and canned sockeye sales are up 9 percent, both the result of the lower prices and promotions.
