Japan is expected to see a huge decrease in snow crab supply in 2016, following a double-digit reduction in quotas in Alaska and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The total allowable catches of opilio in Newfoundland and Labrador has been set at 43,802 metric tons for the 2016 season, down approximately 13 percent from the previous season.

According to the announcement by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), the quota for Division 3K decreased 19 percent over the year to 5,889 metric tons.

3LNO, the largest supplier, sees a 6 percent drop to 35,646 metric tons, with 13 percent decline at 3,010 metric tons for 3Ps.
