Cold smoked salmon firms have received more scrutiny than usual in the last five months, and during that time the recalls have kept rolling in.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is in the midst of carrying out a six-month assignment to investigate 35 cold smoked salmon firms by the end of the year, FDA Policy Analyst Sebastian Cianci told IntraFish.

“What we’re trying to do is determine if listeria monocytoginous is present in these firms,” Cianci said. “One way is to see if it is there through environmental sampling.
