Frozen skipjack tuna prices surged in the first three months of the year in the wake of the United States, Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) dispute over fishing access in the Pacific Ocean.

In March, the West Pacific Ocean (WPO) skipjack tuna price, delivered Bangkok, hit $1,600 (€1,404) per metric ton -- a 37 percent jump from $1,170 (€1,027) per metric ton in February.

Industry watchers IntraFish interviewed have differing views on how the price picture will develop for the remainder of the year as several factors continue to create uncertainty in the supply picture. 

One
