As legal deadlines for claims from the BP oil spill approach, dozens of shrimp processors along the US Gulf Coast are facing a tough decision – whether to accept the terms BP set for compensation in its settlement or fight for more.
BP's settlement calculated losses according to the year of 2010, but some processors incurred more losses in 2011.
"Here's the short scenario of that -- If I were a business that had a short inventory of shrimp when the spill occurred and I did not have the opportunity to buy brown shrimp that season and then the price skyrocketed I could make a good load of money on that product."
