According to the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC), exports of Norwegian salmon to Russia increased by 66 percent to NOK 3 billion (€360 million/$510 million) in 2010.
Reasons for this include improved distribution and increased demand, particularly outside Russia central regions, and reduced supply of trout.
Repeated warnings
The massive growth collides with severe warnings from Russian quarters.
In October IntraFish reported that ”nightmare prices” were forcing salmon specialists to diversify: Severnaya, one of the biggest Russian players for farmed salmon and wild salmon, stepped up its import of sea bass and sea bream and other species due to the high salmon prices.
