Treatment against sea lice cost Norwegian salmon producers “from NOK 1 billion (€123.2 million/$169.6 million) upwards” last year, despite reduced growth.

The figure is based on information from both companies and fish health services, and is at similarly high levels as estimated for 2010 and 2011.

Last year, Norwegian salmon exports were worth NOK 31.3 billion (€3.9 billion/$5.3 billion), and national sales value came to NOK 1.22 billion (€150.3 million/$206.9 million), in total NOK 32.5 billion (€4 billion/$5.5 billion).

According to Ketil Rykhus, national coordinator for the aquaculture industry’s campaign against salmon lice, last year there were 1,400 sites available for salmon farming.
