Scot-Hatch, the only company in Scotland currently farming king scallops, is looking for £1.2 million (€1.5 million/$2 million) of investment to build a hatchery on the west coast, part of a drive to plant the seed of what the company thinks can be a thriving Scottish scallop industry.
The company currently sends its scallops to a hatchery in Norway, where they spawn, and the spats are then sent back to Scotland for on-growing. Last year Scot-Hatch produced 1 million scallops this way, and production is expected to increase to 2.5
