Two major Russian grocery retail chains, X5 and Real, sent a notice of concern to IntraFish and others. Salmon prices rose 30 percent in a few weeks, and they say this is impossible to blame on natural circumstances in the market, but instead external causes.
In a phone interview with IntraFish, NSEC’s representative in Moscow, Julia Seljeseth, said they had respect for the chains’ concern.
“Our policy is not to pass comment on price levels. But I don’t agree with the chains’ claim that salmon prices are improbably high, and that the rise in prices is not steered by the market.
