“Norwegians claim prices will remain stable. We Russians maintain they will fall,” two Russian salmon importers, who wished to remain anonymous, told IntraFishduring the European Seafood Exposition.
This could start happening around mid-July to early August, as Chile recovers, they said. “We imagine they’ll drop NOK 6 (€0.76/$1.10) to NOK 35 (€4.50/$6.30) to NOK 36 (€4.60/$6.40) per kilo.”
In the meantime, they said, demand is suffering. “These high prices are a serious problem for us. They hurt demand.”
Exporters: stuck in the middle
Unsurprisingly, salmon buyers have been complaining about the high prices.
